TMG REVIEW: The Tie Collective subscription box

Subscription boxes. There’s a plethora of them out there. One of the things that has frustrated me about subscription boxes is that there’s no guarantee of quality for most of them. What if you don’t like one or more of the items in the box? What if you’d like to buy one of those items as a gift for someone? Are you rewarded for long term subscription? The Male Guide reviews Australian subscription box start-up, The Tie Collective, for your convenience. And TMG is impressed.

What is a subscription box?
In a nutshell, a subscription box is typically a box full of goodies (usually accessories) that you receive monthly in exchange for a subscription-type payment. Think of it as your newspaper delivery on fashion steroids. In our opinion, it’s a great starting point for men to start developing their accessories library when starting to up their fashion game.

However you don’t usually get to pick your own stuff and it’s all packaged and sent out to you. Tough luck if you don’t like some of the stuff. But wait…

The Tie Collective

Like most boxes, each month you will receive a box with a tie, a pocket square, lapel pin, cufflinks and a tie bar. It can change slightly from provider but this is what’s in your box from The Tie Collective. However, you have the opportunity to receive items from a number of brands, including James Harper, Hardy Amies, Collezione and Oliver Stone.

This is where I believe the Tie Collective sets itself apart in the first instance, the products are quality products. No throw-aways here. Not bad to be able to choose the tie in your box!

While The Tie Collective is geared on the higher end of the scale with subscription boxes, TMG believes it’s money well spent. The quality is there. The brands are there.

Box Price (via subscription): $85/month (inc shipping)
Box Price (one-off): $99 (inc shipping)
Box value: $125-160

One of the best things is you’re going to get rewarded for ongoing subscription. With rewards every 3 months (sunglasses, watches, a brand new Bentley – just kidding on the Bentley), that value increases.

Look, TMG isn’t really into the subscription box thing. But TMG sees a few things here:
– It’s an awesome way for men to start to develop their wardrobe without breaking the bank
– The quality in The Tie Collective boxes is top-notch
– You get to choose some of the items you get in The Tie Collective boxes
So, gentlemen. If you’re looking for a good subscription box that gives you quality and value, we solidly recommend The Tie Collective.

Thank you to The Tie Collective for providing TMG with a box to road-test their items. TMG is genuinely impressed.

Rewards every three months – such as a watch – means you’re always looked after
